With more than 200,000 used automotive parts in stock and an increasingly digital sales process, DIDIER needed a more structured way to store and retrieve the components suitable for e-commerce. At its site in Sint-Eloois-Vijve, DIDIER now operates an AutoStore™ system integrated by Syncore. LogiCS connects the automated storage system with DIDIER's warehouse software, linking physical storage with its digital inventory processes.
Managing growth and a complex parts inventory
DIDIER dismantles vehicles and makes reusable components available for resale. The assortment ranges from smaller electronic and mechanical components to much larger automotive parts. After analysis it turned out that 70% of this inventory is suitable for automated bin storage.
The investment follows several years of growth. In 2021, DIDIER already identified the need for a new warehouse and additional office space. DIDIER digitalized its parts operation over the years. Reusable parts are coded and linked to their OEM reference numbers, helping DIDIER register, identify and sell individual components.
E-commerce has added another dimension. DIDIER delivers Benelux orders within 24 hours when they are placed before 15:00. This increases the importance of structured inventory management and efficient access to available parts.
AutoStore configuration realized by Syncore for DIDIER.
High-density storage integrated with warehouse processes
Syncore designed and integrated the AutoStore configuration, workstation setup and LogiCS software interface around DIDIER's warehouse layout and operational requirements.
The AutoStore system provides a dedicated automated storage environment for components suitable for bin-based handling.
A Single Double Grid was selected to maximize storage capacity within the available footprint. Performance simulations were used during the design phase to verify that the configuration could meet the required throughput.
The operational system comprises:
- 4 R5+ Redline robots
- 10 ConveyorPorts for inbound handling
- 2 ConveyorPorts for outbound and counter orders
- support for 330 mm and 425 mm AutoStore bins
- capacity for approximately 30,000 330 mm bins, approximately 21,500 425 mm bins, or a combination of both formats.
The two bin heights allow different component sizes to be accommodated within the same automated storage concept.
A distinctive aspect of the project is the integration of the building. The AutoStore grid connects two fire compartments. Robots travel through a protected opening in the separating wall, linking inbound handling with the main storage area without requiring an additional manual transfer step.
Connecting physical and digital inventory with LogiCS
The automated storage system also needed to connect with DIDIER's existing warehouse software and operator workflows.
LogiCS Warehouse Control Software connects DIDIER’s WMS with the AutoStore Controller. It receives warehouse tasks, coordinates their execution, and returns completed activities to the host system.
LogiCS also provides the operator interface at the workstations. Employees can use it for inbound handling, picking and cycle counting, while accessing relevant order, product and bin information.
This connects DIDIER's digital warehouse information with the physical storage and movement of parts within AutoStore.
Automated storage integrated into daily operations
With AutoStore and LogiCS now in daily operation, DIDIER has created a compact storage process that links selected reusable parts with its digital warehouse systems. Employees can access stored components through the goods-to-person workstations, while LogiCS coordinates the flow of information between DIDIER's WMS and AutoStore.
This gives DIDIER a more structured and space-efficient way to manage these components while supporting further growth in inventory and order volumes.
